Would you like to learn more about the region? Step back in time and look around a cobbler’s or cooper’s workshop. Soak up the atmosphere of a classroom from yesteryear, old-fashioned games, traditional costumes, rural life… Did you know that there used to be a Royal Saltworks in Moûtiers? That’s why one whole section is dedicated to salt production!

Visit Moûtiers

Exploring on your own or on a guided tour, discover the town, the historic centre and the many curiosities along its criss-crossing cobbled streets. Your visit is guaranteed to be made all the richer and more captivating as you discover the town’s historical gems: the old bridge is one of the town’s emblematic sites, close to SaintPierre Cathedral, the former archbishop’s palace, the ‘barrioz’ formerly used by washerwomen for laundry… Did you know that almost all of the roads and squares have their own stories, often connected to the work done there at the time, or to objects, local characters and quirks, and sometimes the people who lived there?Have you heard of the Coq Rouge passage? It too has its own little story to tell…

How do you fancy immersing yourself in the life of yesteryearon a walk?

11 stops so you can discover the traditional habitat and points of interest connected to the everyday lives and traditions of villagers in the last century: laundry, dairy, communal oven, school, ND de la Vie sanctuary, a hot spot for pilgrims and a baroque masterpiece.


A historical route to complete under your own steam which is also fun for children. They can scan QR codes and discover typical scenes from life in the olden days, highlighting important human values.
